Meeting with your Lawyer

You should prepare yourself mentally for your first meeting with your lawyer. You should be ready to ask and answer questions during the meeting. Your lawyer will walk you through the process, but there are some things you should be aware of at this juncture:

  • Always remember that even though you went to your lawyer for help, but they also need your business and you should be treated as a valued client. Your lawyer should be respectful and be ready to discuss your legal issue and attempt to find a solution. If you do not feel comfortable that your legal problem is being handled properly, then you do not have to work with this legal professional.
  • As with most important meetings, you should plan to arrive a bit early so you can relax and prepare your thoughts before the meeting.
  • Always be honest about the facts of your case up front. Tell your lawyer everything that you can think of even if it doesn't seem important to you. These are the types of details that may make or break your case if there is one.
  • You should have prepared a list of questions, so make sure that you ask all of them.
